My name is Tremain Fisher and I am an encaustic artist. Encaustic is an archaic medium that was used by the Greek people in Egypt to create burial portrait in the Egyptian region of Fayum. Encaustic is a art form that uses beeswax as medium. Damar resin is mixed with it to create a suitable and stable medium in which to paint with. Encaustic painting is very archival because beeswax is moisture resistant which Encaustic as a painting medium was not used up until it had a revival by notable artist Jasper Johns. Encaustic used during that revival and presently uses encaustic for abstraction and or non representational art. My blog will set about to show how the ancient Greeks made realist portraits, show contemporaries who still practice encaustic realism, as well as show my techniques and tools for creating realistic encaustic works of art.
